Anita, 34. Training changed my life – and now I want to change the lives of others

I was always slim, but I had never exercised. At school, I was excused from PE, and as an adult, fitness didn’t interest me. A fast metabolism, tall height, and a slim waist were my normal — until I lost my mother. I started eating my emotions and, within a year, gained nearly 20 kilograms without even noticing. For several years, I went through extreme diets, losing and gaining weight over and over again. I reached my lowest point. I was terrified of the gym — everything felt unfamiliar. But I realized I needed to change my strategy. I also believed that strength training would make me look masculine and that getting back to my previous shape was no longer possible. Still, three years ago, I started attending group classes. Later, I realized I wanted to try personal training. I used to work in an office and build a career in finance, but now I’m writing my final thesis for a Category C trainer certification at Riga Stradiņš University. Training has become a time when my mind connects with my body and my thoughts fade away. I am now in the best physical and mental shape I have ever been in.

Normunds, 36. The discipline I teach others starts with me

In my daily life, I work with young people. I teach them responsibility, focus, and precision – even in areas like drone piloting, where there’s no room for mistakes. For a long time, I trained only when I had the time and energy. I tried different classes but couldn’t really find the right fit. Until I joined a CrossTraining class in a small group, where the trainer sees every movement. It’s an intense workout where your heart races and your mind clears. From that moment, training became part of my everyday life. My routine, sleep, nutrition, and mindset all changed. This year, I placed 5th in the MyFitness competition. Last year – 7th. It may just be a number, but for me, it’s progress. There were moments during the competition when I wanted to stop, but I reminded myself to keep going. That’s what I teach my students too – not just technique, but attitude. But my biggest motivation is my family and my two children. I want to show that movement is the norm. I want to be a father who can keep up with them now and in the future. My wife has also joined me on this journey, and now we share a personal trainer.

Roberts, 22. As long as I move, I live

Life forced me to stop when I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. I was still a teenager when everything changed — my body, my daily life, my mindset, and my dreams. My greatest passion was basketball. When the illness took that away from me, it felt like a part of me had died. After being discharged from the hospital, I had to learn how to live differently. But I knew one thing for certain – movement would save both my body and my mind. Inactivity is one of my greatest fears. I first stepped into MyFitness in 2021. The beginning wasn’t easy – my confidence wavered, my body felt unfamiliar, and I had no endurance. I started with balance training, simply walking on the treadmill. Then I began running, later added dumbbell exercises, and tried group classes. Now I regularly attend CrossTraining sessions with trainer Edvīns Bušs. By stepping outside my comfort zone, I prove to myself every time that I can do more than I think. Thanks to my coach, I’ve learned proper exercise technique, how to balance effort and recovery, and the basics of nutrition. At the gym, I am no longer just a former patient or someone with a diagnosis. There, I am a person who is growing and refusing to give up.
